Below are a few categories of lessons you'll receive

Besides a past library preloaded with several course bundles to get you started, every 2 weeks a brand new lesson will be added to the library - including various themes from Artist Styles & Movements, Tips & Techniques, Travel Journaling, and Paint Together opportunities.

Artist Styles & Movements

In these lessons Julian focuses on various artists and art movements throughout history. And then you get a change to recreate a masterpiece. From the Impressionsists to great women artists, the Italian Renaissance to Picasso - enjoy fascinating tales and scintillating stories.

Museums & Galleries

This category of lessons takes you through some of the major museums as well as some lesser-known galleries throughout the world. Learn about some of the highlight pieces in each before trying your hand at a reproduction inspired by a masterpiece.

Paint Together

This is one of the popular categories of lessons where Julian chooses a beautiful and inspiring image - perhaps landscapes or botanicals - and you draw and paint with him, learning new techniques along the way.

Travel Journaling

These lessons allow you to travel through amazing locales around the world - learning about a combination of visual stimuli from architecture, to landscapes, and even perhaps a masterful monument. Then we recreate something of interest in "travel journal style" from each place.

Tips & Techniques

Sometimes lessons will deal with specific techniques such as creating the illusion of reflection with watercolour, or useful tips on how to best create a self-portrait. Subjects will vary, and Julian will always add fun insights and history tidbits to whatever you're learning.

Meet Your Instructor

Julian Hyzler

Senior Instructor

Julian has been teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 30 years. He initially trained at art schools in the UK before specialising in Illustration in London, working for many prestigious clients as a freelancer. Since then he has led hundreds of week-long trips to Italy and around the world, developing over the years an understanding of the Cities and the History of Art in Florence, Rome, Siena, Naples and Venice with his company EASEL&LENS.

The atmosphere generated in the studio is always relaxed and friendly, whilst also being productive and lively, and you can expect positive encouragement to try new ideas as and when you feel confident to do so. Teaching art requires energy, patience and an ability to get as much out of each student as possible, and Julian always strives to do this, whether teaching painting and drawing, photography, design, or illustration.
